Ford Performance Racing School (FPRS) instructors waged thrilling battles to the checkered flag in the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge this weekend.
Steven Phillips: GS Champion
FPRS instructor Steven Phillips grabbed the Grand Sport (GS) class victory with co-driver Al Carter in the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca 240, the four-hour headliner on Saturday at the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix.
Phillips and Carter advanced the No. 99 Automatic Racing Aston Martin Vantage from deep in the pack to win after qualifying 12th in the 15-car field. The duo ran in the center of the group at the outset but by the middle of the race had advanced into the top five.
The No. 99 kept the lead for the remaining 18 laps to claim victory.
Pierre Kleinubing: First Place, ST Class
Also: Pole Position Winner in Qualifying
FPRS instructor Pierre Kleinubing finished first in the Street Touring (ST) class with co-driver Roy Block in the #75 Compass 360 Audi S3 in the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix on Saturday, September 23, 2017.
Kleinubing started the race from the pole after a wickedly fast lap during qualifying, but the team dropped to mid-pack before the duo powered back to lead.
GS pole winner: Brandon Davis
FPRS Instructor Brandon Davis picked up the top spot in Practice 2 in the TRG-AMR Aston Martin Vantage along with co-driver Gregory Milzcik on Friday, September 22 in the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix.
Brandon Davis has raced with TRG-AMR since 2013, bringing with him over a decade of experience in stock and sportscar racing, coaching, and instructing expertise. A World Challenge GT Champion, Brandon has also raced in NASCAR’s K&N Pro Series West, Camping World Series West, and multiple seasons in the Pirelli World Challenge, GRAND-AM, and IMSA SportsCar Championship and Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge series.
